Growing Your Own Dahlias from Tubers

If you’ve got access to a heated greenhouse or a warm propagation bench, then our tubers are just the thing for you. They’re perfect for anyone keen to take their own cuttings and raise strong, healthy plants ready for the 2026 season.

👉 Please note: plants and tubers must be ordered separately, as dispatch times differ.

About Our Tubers

Our tubers are field-grown, which means they’re generally larger than standard pot-grown tubers. On average, you can expect 6–10 cuttings per tuber, though this will vary by cultivar.

While tubers can be planted directly into the garden, they shine when used for cuttings. Plants raised from fresh cuttings each year tend to produce higher-quality blooms — with stronger stems, richer colours, and better petal form and density.

Why Take Cuttings?

Cutting from tubers is a tried-and-tested way to clone a favourite variety, especially if you’ve only got one tuber and want more. The benefits are clear:

  • True to type: exact clones of the parent plant.

  • Multiply rare varieties: an efficient way to expand your collection.

  • Stronger plants: often producing vigorous growth and robust root systems.

  • Better blooms: fewer stems but flowers of outstanding quality, with denser petals and more vibrant colour.

  • Perfect for exhibition growers: cuttings allow greater control over bloom timing for show benches.
